The 2012 MLB season resumes tonight and two of the hottest teams in the American League are scheduled to lock horns at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees kick start a three game set at 7:05pm ET this evening on the MLB Network. The latest MLB Odds have the hosting Yankees listed as a -134 moneyline favorite; the game total is set at nine runs with Over being favored at -115 odds.
New York entered the All-Star break on a 4-1 tear, bringing its halfway point record to an MLB best 52-33. The Yankees, who rank fourth in the American League in runs scored, own a seven game lead in the AL East as a result.
Yankees Skipper Joe Girardi will look to get the season’s second half started in the same fashion the first ended with Hiroki Kuroda on the mound. Kuroda comes into tonight’s start with solid numbers, producing a 3.50 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 83 strikeouts in 108 innings first half innings pitched.
Kuroda is coming off one of his worst starts of the year, though, as he yielded 10 hits and six earned runs in a 10-8 win over the Red Sox.
The Angels got off to a rough start, but the come out of the All-Star break with a 48-38 record and atop the American League Wild Card standings. Los Angeles is also in contention for the AL West title, sitting four games back of the Rangers in the division standings.
The Angels start the second half with C.J. Wilson taking the hill at Yankee Stadium. Wilson, one of the team’s many 2012 All-Star representatives, posted a 9-5 record to go along with a 2.43 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 18 first half starts. Wilson’s consistent efforts allowed the Angels to tally an 8-1 record in his last nine appearances with the lone loss in that stretch coming in his last start, a 2-3 home loss to the Orioles.
Tonight’s game marks the seventh meeting of the season between these two teams. The clubs split the first six contests with each squad taking two out of three in a home set.
