New York Yankees Sign Richie Sexson: After having a sub par first half of the season (by Yankees standards), the Bronx Bombers have added another power hitter to their recently anemic offensive attack. It has been reported by ESPN that the New York Yankees have reached a deal Thursday, with the struggling ex-Mariner first basemen Richie Sexson.

The New York Yankees resume second half play tonight against the Oakland Athletics at the "Cathedral of Baseball". At SBGglobal.com the New York Yankees are -175 ML betting odds favorite against the Oakland A’s (+155).

Reports have now been confirmed that Sexson –who was released by the Seattle Mariners last week– is indeed Bronx bound. Tonight’s game 1 between the Oakland A’s at the New York Yankees has a scheduled 7:05 pm ET start from the Stadium.

After injuries to Matsui and Damon have taken away some of the depth from this Yankees lineup, GM Brian Cashman felt the need to go out and get a proven slugger and a steady first baseman in Sexson. New York will start their second half of the season at 5-5 in their last 10 games played, 27-22 at home, and 23-23 on the road.

The Yankees (50-45) are currently 3rd in the AL East standings but only trail the first place Boston Red Sox by 6 games, and the slumping Tampa Bay Rays (55-39) by just 5½ a game. It is imperative for the Bombers to string together some wins, and start cutting into that deficit, pronto.

Tonight’s pitching match up between the Oakland A’s and the New York Yankees, brought to you by SBGglobal.com:

For the visiting Oakland A’s: making his 19th start of the regular season out of LSU, LHP Greg Smith (5-7, 3.43 ERA, 74 K, 47 BB, and 10 HR, in 110.1 IP).

For the home team, the New York Yankees: making his 20th start of the campaign will be the cerebral RHP from Stanford, Mike Mussina (11-6, 3.61 ERA, 68 K, 16 BB, and 12 HR, in 107.1 IP).
