Giants vs LA Dodgers MLB 2010 Odds – July 20, 2010: The San Francisco Giants [+104 ML] are moving on up the National League West division, and will try to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers [-114 ML] once again on Tuesday night at 10:10 PM ET (7:10PM PT). It was a big win for the Giants on Monday night, as they are now four games behind the San Diego Padres. The 5-2 win also snapped the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak in the season series. The Giants are now 2-5 against their rival divisional opponent.
Tim Lincecum (10-4, 2.94 ERA) will start things off for San Francisco on Tuesday, after having an extremely effective start against the Mets on Friday. The right-hander threw a six-hitter, striking out five to shut out New York in a 2-0 win. Joe Torre, Dodgers manager, believes Clayton Kershaw should be a pretty good match-up for tonight’s game.
"Lincecum's won a couple of Cy Youngs, you have to put him in a different class even though age-wise it's not that big of a differential," Torre said. "But still it's experience."
Twenty-two year old, Kershaw is 9-5 with a 3.16 ERA, with 129 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings this season. He was not as sharp on his last start on Thursday, allowing four runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 7-1 loss to Arizona. Although the Dodgers are struggling at the moment, Torre hopes he can motivate his team to perform at their best to finish off the season.
"We control our own fate," Torre said. "It's all going to come down to our division, and as dark as it seems now, you put about three or four wins together and all of a sudden the whole environment changes. We need to obviously get back for our own confidence and win ballgames. I don't think within the next week or two weeks are going to tell you what kind of team we have because there's a lot more time to go."
