On Monday night, the Rangers defeated the Tigers 8-6 in 14 innings, which extended Detroit’s losing streak to six games. Nelson Cruz finally came through for the Rangers lining a two-run homer. The Tigers are 2.5 games away from first place in the American League Central and now must deal with the injury of third baseman Brandon Inge. The veteran left the game in the third inning after being hit in the left hand. He will be sitting out at least four to six weeks.
Tiger’s coach Jim Leyland had very little to say after the game. "That's part of baseball," Leyland said. "When you are going good, you get them in. When you're not, you don't. We had some opportunities to do that. We didn't do it tonight. That's part of it. When you are struggling, that's what happens."
Detroit will send Armando Galarraga to the mound to make his first start in two weeks. The right-hander was sent to Triple-A Toledo, but brought back to start on Tuesday. Galarraga is 1-1 with a 5.61 ERA in six starts since his almost perfect game June 2nd.
The Rangers will bring out Tommy Hunter who is 6-0 with a 2.39 ERA. His last start was on Thursday against the Red Sox, where he allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings. Hunter also became the first Texas pitcher to win his first six decisions in a season, since 1999’s Esteban Loaiza.
