Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees MLB Prediction: The New York Yankees (53-45) have come out blasting after the All-Star break. The Bronx Bombers will start a 3-game series with the Minnesota Twins (55-43) before heading to Bean Town to take on the World Champion Red Sox this weekend at Fenway. This game 1/3 has a scheduled first pitch start of 7:05 pm ET and ca be seen on the YES Network. Tonight, the New York Yankees come in as -125 MLB betting odds ML favorites against the visiting Minnesota Twins (+105). New York comes in winners of 3-in-a-row behind some stellar pitching performances from Mike Mussina, Joba Chamberlain, Andy Pettitte, and Cy Young candidate Mariano Rivera. The Over/Under in runs between the Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees has been set at a combined 9½ total. The Yankees have certainly picked the right time to get hot, as they have won 7 of their last 10 games, and thus, trimming the AL East deficit to just 4½ games out of first place. Tonight, Joe Girardi and the pinstripes look to keep things rolling as they send to the mound RHP Sidney Ponson. Thus far in 12 starts this season, Ponson has a mark of 5-1, along with a respectable 3.96 ERA in 72.2 IP. The only blemish for Ponson this year on the mound has been his control, which tends to desert him at times. He sometimes struggles to throw strikes, as his SO-to-BB ratio would indicate (34-25). The Minnesota Twins on the other hand have been one of the hottest teams in the AL. However they are coming off a 0-1 loss at the hands of the Texas Rangers and RHP Vicente Padilla’s beautifully pitched game (7 IP, 3 hits, 2 BB, 0 K). Minnesota is currently 21-24 on the road, and 5-5 for their last 10. Tonight, they are hoping Nick Blackburn will get them back on track with a road “W”. Thus far in 19 starts, Blackburn is 7-5 with a good 3.65 ERA in 118.1 IP. Blackburn is a control pitcher as his K-to-BB ratio shows (64-18), but he does yield a fair share of hits (132 in 118.1 IP).
