Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers: The Texas Rangers [-108] are looking for the sweep against the Detroit Tigers [-102] at Comerica Park on Wednesday at 7:05 PM ET (10:05 PM PT). The struggling home-team will try to avoid a seventh consecutive loss, hitting .213 and getting outscored 43-17 in the past 6 games.
On Monday night, Detroit tried to push through 14 innings but lost 8-6. Last night, they were shut out by the Rangers 8-0, as Armando Galarraga allowed four runs and nine hits in 7 1-3 innings.
Tonight the Tigers will try their chances with right-hander Max Scherzer, who before Friday was 3-0 and had a 0.98 ERA in his previous four starts. On Friday Scherzer (6-7, 4.74 ERA), gave up four runs and walked five in five innings. That night Detroit lost to Cleveland 8-2. Detroit Manager Jim Leyland knows what they have been up against. “This is a good team,” Leyland said. “That’s why they’re leading the division.”
The Rangers lead the AL West 5 games, with the Los Angeles Angels trailing. Texas started the second half of the season with a seven-game road trip and so far they are 5-1.
Tonight the Rangers will send Colby Lewis to the mound. Lewis (9-5, 3.42 ERA) is looking to match a career high with 10th win. On Friday against the Red Sox, he helped the Rangers win 8-4 by striking out seven and only giving up three runs in five innings.
