The Tampa Bay Rays have cooled off a little bit but that was expected. They are a young team that is experiencing winning for the first time in franchise history and they can not be expected to lead the league in wins throughout the entire marathon season. The good news is that they head to Kansas City on Thursday , which is a place where many teams to go to cure their struggles. The Rays will send Matt Garza to the mound as the Rays will try to win their first road game in seven tries. The Rays have been swept in their last two road series (at New York and at Cleveland). Garza may not be the pitcher to resolve the Rays road woes because he's got road problems of his own. The Rays have lost five their last six road games that Garza started. Garza is 6-1 with a 2.10 ERA at home. Opposing hitters are batting only .215 when he starts at Tropicana Field. On the road, though, Garza is 2-4 with an ERA of 5.91 while opposing hitting are batting .268 against him. Garza has allowed 11 home runs on the year and all of them have come away from home. He has yet to allow a home run at the Trop. The Royals have seen Garza pitch once this season already but only scored three runs off of him in 6.2 innings pitched but still won 7-4. The Royals will counter with Gil Meche, who has led the team to wins six of the last seven times he has started. Unlike Garza, Meche has actually pitched better away from home. At home, he has an ERA of 5.25 and has allowed 11 home runs in 58.1 innings pitched. On the road, he has an ERA of .3.95 and has given up only three home runs 68.1 innings pitched. Meche started against the Rays just a couple of weeks back and allowed two runs in 5.1 innings of work.
