The red hot Tampa Bay Rays will look to take control of the AL East tonight as they square off against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. This evening’s game two meeting between the division rivals is scheduled to get underway at 7:10pm ET. The latest Free Baseball Picks and Odds from offshore bookmaker Carbon Sports have the hosting Red Sox, who will send Jon Lester to the mound, listed as a -136 moneyline favorite; the Over/Under is set at 9.5 runs (Over is favored at -115 odds).
The Rays notched their sixth straight win last night, knocking off the Red Sox 3-0 in the opener of their four game at Fenway. The victory, which also served as the Rays ninth in their last 10 games, saw Matt Moore turn in a masterful performance as he limited Boston to two hits over nine innings.
Tampa Bay, now 59-41 and just a half game back of the Red Sox in the AL East standings, can only hope for a similar outing this evening from tonight’s starter Roberto Hernandez. Hernandez numbers would suggest that is not likely as he brings a 5-10 record, 4.90 ERA, and 1.31 WHIP to the hill; however, the seven year veteran has been a consistent performer of late. The Dominican native has earned a quality start in each of his last four outings, allowing 12 earned runs over 26 innings for a modest 4.15 ERA.
Boston, which is 2-2 since the break, will counter Hernandez with scuffling southpaw Jon Lester. Lester started the season in fine form, but June was a disastrous month for the Washington native. He amassed a 7.62 ERA and 2-2 record last month, leading to his current 8-6 record and 4.58 ERA. Lester, though, has been outstanding at home this year, producing a 3-0 record and 2.96 ERA in seven starts at Fenway Park.
Free Baseball Picks Betting Trend: The Rays, who are 2-5 at Fenway Park this season, are 1-6 in their last seven games as a road dog against a left handed pitcher with a game total between 9.5 and 10 runs.
