MLB Odds 2012 Los Angeles Dodgers vs St. Louis Cardinals

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

cardinals wainwrightThe Dodgers and Cardinals hit the diamond for game two of their four game set tonight as L.A. looks to take a 2-0 in the extended series. This evening’s contest is scheduled to get underway at 8:15pm ET; it will be broadcast live on the MLB Network. MLB Odds have St. Louis listed as a -120 moneyline favorite while Los Angeles is drawing +110 odds in an underdog role. The game total in tonight’s National League showdown is set at 7.5 runs.

Los Angeles continued its torrid stretch last night, taking game one from the Cardinals 5-3. The win served as the Dodgers fifth in a row and it improved their record to 53-44 for the season. L.A., which got six solid innings out of starter Chad Billingsley last night, now trails the NL West leading Giants by just 1.5 games.

Clayton Kershaw will attempt to close that gap even further tonight as he takes the ball for Skipper Don Mattingley. The 24 year old southpaw does not own the most impressive of records at 7-5; however, his 2.74 ERA and 1.05 WHIP are among the best in the league. Kershaw, who has 132 strikeouts in 134.2 innings pitched, is 2-2  with a 3.38 ERA in eight away starts. For his career Kershaw is 4-2 with a 2.75 ERA in nine starts against the Cardinals.

St. Louis, which had won three straight going into last night’s series opener, fell to 50-46 with the loss. The Cardinals, a 26-21 home team, are six games back of the division leading Reds, who recorded their fifth straight win yesterday.

The Cardinals Adam Wainwright gets the call tonight as the club looks to avoid an 0-2 series hole and its seventh loss since the All-Star break. Wainwright’s season, as his numbers would suggest, has been an up and down one. The six year veteran is 7-10 with a 4.42 ERA in 19 starts, but he has been more hot than cold of late as evidenced by his last start. Wainwright took the loss but he limited Milwaukee to four hits and one earned run over seven innings at Miller Park last Wednesday.

Wainwright has been a better road than home pitcher this season, though. He is 4-5 with a 5.01 ERA in 10 starts at Busch Stadium

MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Dodgers are 2-8 in their last 10 games as road dog at St. Louis in the month of July.
