The Rangers will look to bounce back from last night’s loss to the White Sox this evening when the two American League powers meet for a game two battle at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. First pitch in tonight’s contest, which features starters Philip Humber and Matt Harrison, is scheduled for 8:05pm ET. The latest MLB Odds have Texas listed as a -200 moneyline favorite; the Over/Under is set at 9.5 runs.
Since their 3-1 post-All-Star break start, the Rangers have been a mixed bag, alternating between wins and losses in route to a 58-40 overall record. Texas’ up and down nature continued last night as they followed a 5-3 series deciding victory against Boston with a 9-5 series opening loss to Chicago.
The Rangers tagged the White Sox Chris Sale, who has been mostly untouchable this season, for six hits and five earned runs over 6.1 innings, but they were completely stymied by Chicago’s bullpen. The White Sox did even worse to Texas staff, recording eight hits and five earned runs off of Yu Darvish before hammering Alexi Ogando for two hits and three earned over 2.2 innings.
Skipper Ron Washington can only hope for a better effort from tonight’s starter, Matt Harrison. Harrison is coming off one of his poorer performances of the season, a 4-7 to the Angels in which he gave up eight hits and four earned runs over six innings; however, he still has glowing numbers. Harrison brings a 12-5 and 3.02 ERA to the hill this evening and he has yielded just 12 hits and two earned runs in 14 innings opposite the White Sox this season.
Chicago’s Philip Humber did pitch a no-hitter against Seattle earlier this season, but things have gone mostly downhill for the 29 year old right hander since that shining moment. Humber is 4-5 with a 6.25 ERA on the season, and he is coming off a 4-6 loss to Detroit that featured him giving up seven hits (four home runs) and six earned runs over three innings. And, while Humber’s away numbers are better than his home totals, they are still lackluster in nature. The six year veteran is 4-2 with a 5.59 ERA in seven away starts.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Rangers are 11-2 this season playing as a home favorite coming off a home loss. Average margin of victory = 3.2 runs per game.
