Manny Ramirez Trade Deadline Update: With less than 2 hours away from MLB’s 4 pm ET trade deadline, Manny Ramirez is still with the Red Sox. The trade negotiations between the Florida Marlins, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Boston Red Sox have continued all day long, but as of now, no deal is yet in place. Tonight, the Boston Red Sox have a day off, as they welcome the Oakland Athletics to Fenway Park tomorrow. Meanwhile, Ken Griffey Jr. has indeed approved the deal that would send him to the windy city. So Griffey is now officially a member of the Chicago White Sox. Tonight, the Chicago White Sox are -102 betting odds underdogs against the Minnesota Twins (-118). It is speculated that after more than 36 hours of trade negotiations for Manny Ramirez, the 3-team deal between the Marlins, Pirates and Red Sox is now “dead”. In the proposed epic trade for Manny, the Marlins were trading Jeremy Hermida and a prospect to the Red Sox, and then the Sox would trade Hermida and the prospect to the Pirates for Jason Bay. However, even though the deal for Manny has indeed fallen through, there’s now speculation that there are now talks between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Tampa Bay Rays involving LF Jason Bay. So there you have it, by the looks of it, Manny will continue to be Manny in Boston. Why? because the Marlins were allegedly asking for an additional $7 million from the Red Sox to cover a portion of Ramirez's contract.
