His innings pitched have progressively declined since the signing. He lasted 217 innings in 2005, 132.2 innings in 2006, 28 innings last year and is at 49.2 this year.

He'll make the second start since visiting the disabled list for most of July as the San Diego Padres visit Shea Stadium. In his first start since being called up from rehabbing in the minors, Martinez lost to the Houston Astros. He gave up five hits, three home runs and three earned runs in five innings pitched. He's allowed 11 home runs in 49 innings pitched, which is the highest home run-per-inning ration of his career. 

The good news is that Martinez will pitch at home on Wednesday, where he is 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA. On the road, his ERA is 7.12. 

Martinez will face Chae Seung Baek, who has been batted around fairly regularly this season. 

Baek has a cumulative ERA of 5.22 and that average has gone up over his last five starts. He's given up 16 earned runs in his last 22.1 innings pitched (6.51 ERA). 

Baek is 0-6 at home but is 3-0 on the road. His ERA, WHIP and opposing batting average are significantly better on the road. At home, Baek's ERA is 6.33, his WHIP is 1.50 and opposing hitters are batting .310 against him. On the road, his ERA is 3.86 with a WHIP of 1.13 and opposing hitters are batting .233. 

In one previous meeting against the Mets early this year, Baek pitched six innings giving up seven hits and one earned runs.
