Mets, Brewers chasing playoffs, the New York Mets are battling with Philadelphia in the National League East, while the Milwaukee Brewers are trying to stave off the Phillies for the wild-card spot. The two will clash at Miller Park on Wednesday afternoon in the final of a three-game set. MLB oddsmakers at Betonline.com currently have the New York Mets at +108 betting odds vs Milwaukee Brewers (-118) heading into this MLB picks matchup. New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers – 2:05 PM ET Oliver Perez (9-7, 3.90) racked up his third consecutive no-decision in a 5-4 win at Florida, allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on three hits over six innings, but he walked five and struck out four in the contest. Perez is now third in the league in base-on-balls, which really hurts his record. With an ERA of 3.90 while holding the opposition to a.228 average, Perez should have 11 or 12 wins, but putting unnecessary runners on base is sure to bite you now and then. The 27-year-old southpaw struggled in his first meeting with the Brewers as he was tagged for six runs on eight hits in just 4 1/3 innings, but he escaped with a no-decision as the Mets fell 9-7 at home. Dave Bush (9-9, 4.12) won his fourth straight decision in a 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh, scattering a run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. There is not a lot of pressure on Bush to succeed, as he is fifth in the Milwaukee rotation, and he responded with a brilliant August, going 4-0 with a sparkling ERA of 2.12. If the Brewers do manage to make it to the postseason, Bush could be an excellent set-up man for closer Salomon Torres once Milwaukee shortens their rotation. Ironically, his last appearance against the Mets came in 2007 in relief, as he shut the Mets in a single inning’s work to wrap up a 4-2 win in 13 innings for the Brewers at home. The Mets doubled Milwaukee 4-2 in Monday’s series opener behind a two-run homer from Carlos Delgado, and New York will hope that he continues to carry a big stick. Bush has a solid 6-3 record at home with an ERA of 4.21, and Perez’s 5-5 mark on the road is not very promising. Bet on the Milwaukee Brewers to conclude this series with a win on Wednesday.
