Padilla also avoided letting his emotions get the best of him when his catcher Russell Martin appeared to have been hit by D-back’s starter Max Scherzer intentionally on the back. "With the pitcher on deck, I thought at the time, I felt it might be done on purpose," said Martin. "His body language after told me he wasn't. But it still hurt. After it was over, it was over."
Even with the bad reputation that Padilla has of going after hitters with no remorse, cooler heads prevailed in the Dodgers dugout. "He went right at it and shut off any sort of momentum toward an ugly game, and that's his prerogative," Arizona manager A.J. Hinch said. "There's just no reason for us to throw at somebody. It was a situation that didn't make sense. There was no intent, no malice, no reason for it to escalate."
