Yankees Beat Twins 7-2 in Game 1: Last night, the (1-0) New York Yankees began the first of many playoff games to come at the new Yankee Stadium with an impressive 7-2 win over the American League Central clinching (2-0) Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of the 2009 ALDS. Everything clicked for New York in Game 1. Starting pitcher LHP CC Sabathia (1-0, 6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 K, 0 BB, 1.35 ERA) was phenomenal to say the least.
"This is what you come here for, to have a chance to win and pitching in the postseason, playing in October," 
Sabathia said. "It was electric tonight. It felt good. I had a lot of fun out there." The bats came to life in clutch situations, and even 3B Alex Rodriguez got in on the October festivities with a 2-for-4, 2 RBI-game! "It definitely felt good to contribute and get on the board," A-Rod said.
"That's what we envisioned when we signed him — CC would be pitching in late October and November," Yankee manager Joe Girardi stated after the game. "It was the reason we got him. We thought that he could lead this staff and be the ace of this staff, and that's what he has been for us."
Game 2 of this series is scheduled for Friday night at 6:07 PM ET (5:07 PM CT) as the Twins hope Nick Blackburn (11-11, 4.03) can contain the hot Yankee bats and RHP starter, A.J. Burnett (13-9, 4.04 ERA). "Any time you can get two that quick, yeah, that woke up the stadium a bit… It felt just like the old place. I don't think it makes a difference with the venue. It's all about our fans. We have the same fans whether we're here or across the street."
