Rangers at Cardinals 2011 World Series Odds Game 6

by John Day on Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Rangers at Cardinals 2011 World Series Odds Game 6: Seasoned sports gamblers know that MLB Odds can change with the  wind. With the 2011 World Series, that's literally the case as Wednesday's Game 6 was rescheduled to be played Thursday (8:05 P.M. Fox) due to the threat of bad weather. That's probably not a bad idea since Thursday's forcast for St. Louis is for clear skies. However; the extra day off changes the betting landscape in the direction of the Cardinals, but only slightly. Oddsmakers offshore at BetOnline.com have changed the Rangers' championship odds from -300 on Wednesday to -265 ($265 wager to win $100) today while odds on the Cardinals winning the championship went from +250 to +225 ($100 for $225).

For Game 6, odds based on Cardinals' pitcher Jaime Garcia and  Rangers' Colby Lewis as starting pitchers, moved from -113 to -116 while as underdogs, the Rangers went from +103 to +105. The odds shift for the game is minimal but if the Cardinals win Game 6, odds will make a monumental shift towards the Cardinals. If there is to be a Game 7 on Friday, St. Louis could start its ace Chris Carpenter on three days rest; something that would not have happened if the game was played Wednesday.

Since Wednesday's Game 6 postponment, public betting action is near even with 53 percent staying with the Cardinals to 47 percent taking the Rangers. Totals betting is high, by 83 percent on the combined score to go ovER the posted 7-runs.

The change in dates is not expected to affect today's starting pitchers. The Cardinals set up their rotation in order for Garcia to get two home starts in the World Series. Now they hope to reap the benefits. He was brilliant at home this year, and pitched seven shutout innings at Busch in Game 2. Lewis countered Garcia in Game 2 in St. Louis and took a no-decision, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing one run. He was matched zero for zero by Jaime Garcia, who went seven scoreless innings. Lifetime in the World Series, Lewis is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA.

Rangers catcher Mike Napoli delivered the crushing blow in Game 4 and returned to his wrecking-ball ways in Game 5 vs. the Cardinals, hitting a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth to position the Rangers within one win of their first World Series title. Miscommunication between the dugout and the bullpen led to two missed matchups in the eighth inning for St. Louis. Four intentional walks by Texas pitchers led to zero runs for the Cardinals who left the bases loaded twice in the night. Chris Carpenter pitched brilliantly but allowed two solo homers, and the Cards relief corps faltered. Bettors who backed the Rangers at -132 on the moneyline won, and the total score (6) sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.
