New York Yankees Trade for Curtis Granderson & Sign Andy Pettitte: Despite winning that elusive 27th World Series Championship, the New York Yankees arrived at this year’s winter meetings looking to improve last year’s championship roster. According to various reports, the Bronx Bombers have acquired center fielder Curtis Granderson and resigned starting left-handed pitcher Andy Pettitte to a 1-year, $11.75 million deal. Granderson is owed $23.75 million over the next three seasons.

With the signing of Pettitte the Yanks have assured to bring back the same three-man rotation that helped them from the start of the postseason, all the way to winning the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies: CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and 37-year-old, Andrew Eugene.
While there are two spots to fill in the rotation, and even with having Joba Chamberlain and even Phil Hughes as possible suitors, the pinstripes are looking to other options. One of those options is certainly one of the best righties in the game in Toronto Blue Jays’ Roy Halladay. Other free agent interests for New York this offseason include: Rich Harden, Jason Marquis, Joel Pineiro and John Lackey.
With the Granderson three-team trade, many are beginning to speculate about the future of free agents Johnny Damon and World Series MVP, Hideki Matsui. "I'm still shocked that Detroit would trade him," Damon said. "He's a pretty good player and that makes New York better for the next couple of years. (Hitting coach) Kevin Long will get a hold of him and improve his on-base [percentage] and cut down on the strikeouts.
"He's a good player with some decent pop and good tools."
Many believe that the Yankees may want to leave the DH spot open for whenever they would like to give Jorge Posada a half-day off. Nevertheless, the former idiot turned pinstripe champ isn’t overly concerned with his current situation.
"I don't think it affects what I can still do," Damon told the New York Post this week. "Either they come out and pursue me or they don't. I still know how to play baseball and will make any team better."
