CC Sabathia to Signs with New York Yankees

CC Sabathia to Signs with New York Yankees: The New York Yankees have apparently made 2007 American League Cy Young winning left hander, CC Sabathia, an offer he couldn’t refuse. It has been announced by various news sources, including the New York Yankees Web site, that Sabathia has accepted the Yankees offer for a 7-year/$161 million contract.

According to odds makers at SportsBook.com, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have the best Sports Odds of winning the 2009 World Series, at +600.

On Wednesday, a baseball official confirmed that the deal is considered close to agreement but is not completely finalized. It took an additional season and $20 million, from the Yankees initial offer, to reel in perhaps the best left-hander in the game today. Sabathia would be signing the richest-ever deal for a pitcher in baseball’s the history.

In addition, a baseball source also said that the Yankees believe they can top the Atlanta Braves' offer to hard-throwing right-hander A.J. Burnett. It has been reported that the Braves offered Burnett a 5-year deal, which would give him $15 million per year. Thus, the Yankees interest in acquiring first baseman Mark Teixeira has diminished.

Late Tuesday evening, Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia met face-to-face for a third time. Apparently, the most recent visit is believed to have been made to accommodate Sabathia’s family; his wife and three young children. "We all know what kind of ballplayer he is," Cashman said on Monday. "He's a tremendous family man and he's got a wife and three kids. He's got a life choice to make that will direct where they'll reside."
