Free MLB Prediction Marlins vs Phillies PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Sefrino
Wednesday, 10 September 2008
Marlins try to slow surging Phillies, the Florida Marlins may have faded in the playoff race but that doesn’t mean that they can’t affect it. On Wednesday, they will face-off with the Philadelphia Phillies in an attempt to curtain their playoff hopes. MLB oddsmakers at Betonline.com currently have the Florida Marlins at +143 betting odds vs the Phillies (-153) heading into this MLB picks matchup.

That might be tough as the Marlins are below .500 on the road and the Phillies are above .500 at home. Also, the Phillies will have the pitching edge amongst the two starters.

The matchup will feature Ricky Nolasco for the Marlins versus Brett Myers for the Phillies.

Nolasco has progressively improved as the season has continued. His ERA was 5.79 in April, 3.97 in May, 3.31 in June, 3.69 in July and 2.72 in August.

The Marlins have won his last four starts as Nolasco has been stellar of late. In those starts, he’s pitched 29.1 innings, allowed just six runs (1.86 ERA) and his WHIP is 0.68. Part of his success has been the fact that he doesn’t walk too many batters. He’s walked only 38 batters in 184.2 innings pitched this year. He’s walked just four hitters in his last 56 innings pitched.

Nolasco is 2-1 against the Phillies in three starts this year with a 2.75 ERA. The Phillies are batting just .197 against him and have registered only 15 hits in 19.2 innings pitched.

As good as Nolasco has been, Myers has been significantly better.

Since spending some time in the minors, Myers has been lights out in the Majors. He was called up in late July and made his first start on July 23rd and since then, has allowed only eight earned runs in 63.2 innings pitched (1.14 ERA).

The difference has been that Myers has cut down on the walks and cut down on the home runs.

In his first 101.2 innings pitched this year, Myers gave up 24 home runs and walked 44 batters. In his last 63.2 innings of work, he’s given up just two home runs and 15 walks.

The Phillies should be able to win this contest and continue to cut into the Mets lead.

Free MLB Predictions: Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Devil Rays PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Sefrino
Tuesday, 09 September 2008

Red Sox, Rays battle for first place, the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays continue their three-game series on Tuesday night with a key pitching matchup between two studs. Scott Kazmir will face Daisuke Matsuzaka in a tantalizing matchup. MLB oddsmakers at Betonline.com currently have the Boston Red Sox at -157 betting odds vs Tampa Bay Devil Rays (+167) heading into this MLB picks matchup.

Both teams are fighting for first place in the American League East and will four more times (three games in Tampa Bay) after Tuesday.

The Rays had lost five of their previous six games heading into the series with Boston and they better wake up quickly or their miniscule lead in the division will disappear.

Kazmir had struggled in the month of August but has now strung together 11.1 scoreless innings (two starts). In that span, he’s struck out 13 batters, walked eight and allowed just four hits. But both starts were at home and he’s been much better in his own backyard.

At Tropicana Field, Kazmir is 7-1 with a 2.10 ERA. On the road, Kazmir is 4-5 with a 3.96 ERA. He’s also given up nine home runs in 63.2 innings pitched on the road versus five home runs in 68.2 innings pitched at home.

He’s started twice against the Red Sox this season and has allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs in only nine innings pitched.

Matsuzaka has sparkled in his second season in the Majors, posting a 16-2 record with a 2.88 ERA. Unlike Kazmir, though, Dice-K has actually pitched better away from home.

Dice-K has yet to drop a decision on the road and is 7-0 with a 2.67 ERA. Opposing hitters are batting just .189 against him on the road. At home, Matsuzaka is 9-2 with a 3.05 ERA and opposing hitters are batting .226 against him.

He’s started once against Tampa Bay this season, lasting five innings and allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Monday, 08 September 2008

MLB Picks Los Angeles Dodgers (73-70) vs. San Diego Padres (55-88): The team that just a week and a half ago had lost 8 games straight, has now bounced back in grand fashion. The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to 8 games with a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. In the process, Joe Torre and his rejuvenated Dodgers have taken sole possession of 1st place in the NL West by 1½ games over the D-Backs.

Tonight, Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers travel a bit south to beautiful San Diego, CA, to take on the last place Padres at 10:05 PM ET (7:05 PM PT).

At SBGglobal.com, the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers are -140 MLB Betting odds favorites against the home team, San Diego Padres (+120) .

After their 5-3 win on Sunday, OF Manny Ramirez was asked about the now distant 8-game loosing streak: “We already forgot about that,” Manny responded.

However, one thing people can’t forget about is the kind of numbers this guy has put up since shifting over to the National League. Apparently, Manny likes being 3 hours behind, as his production has sky-rocketed. Since coming over to LA, Manny has plastered NL pitching, batting .410 (in 122 at-bats), with 9 doubles, 11 homeruns, 34 RBI, 2 stolen basses, and an on-base percentage of 50.7%.

Tonight, Manny looks to continue his onslaught on NL pitching, as San Diego will send to the mound, RHP Cha Seung Baek (4-10, 5.36 ERA). LA skipper Joe Torre will counter with his new-veteran righty, Greg Maddux (7-11, 4.18 ERA). The OVER/UNDER in this MLB Picks: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres is set at a total of 7½ runs

Tampa Bay Rays (85-56) at Boston Red Sox (84-58) MLB Prediction: The American League East leading Tampa Bay Rays travel to historic Fenway Park in Boston, Mass, for three very crucial games against the surging Boston Red Sox. Going into tonight, only 1½ games separate these two division rivals in the MLB playoff standings. Are the Rays starting to decline at the worse time, as they have now lost 3 in a row?

At BetUS.com, the Boston Red Sox are -220 MLB Betting Odds favorites against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays (+180) in the series opener. Game 1 of this series has a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 PM ET.

Everyone has been expecting the Rays to come back to earth, and thus, begin to fall in the AL East standings. But somehow, the scrappy-inexperienced Rays, have proven everyone wrong, and have continued to succeed, until now.

The Rays come into this series in Boston, not only losers of their last 3 games, but 5-5 in their last 10, and 1-5 to start the last month of the regular season.

Boston, on the other hand, is 5-1 to start the final month of September, and have won 7 of their last 10. This series may easily decide first place in the AL East. The OVER/UNDER for this Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox MLB Prediction has been set at a combined 9½ total runs.

Tonight, the Rays, RHP Edwin Jackson (11-9, 4.07 ERA) takes on a tough LHP in Jon Lester (13-5, 3.37 ERA). Get your Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox MLB Prediction now.

Written by Alexander Banks
Thursday, 04 September 2008

New York Yankees (75-64) at Tampa Bay Rays (84-53) MLB Prediction: Tonight, starting at 7:10 PM ET from the Trop in St. Petersburg, FL, the New York Yankees will try to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays in their season series finale. The Yankees are starting to heat up, but is it a case of too little too late? New York starts tonight’s game 10 behind the Rays in the AL East, and 7 games behind Boston (5 behind second place Twins) in the American League Wild Card.

BetUS.com has the desperate, New York Yankees as +163 betting odds underdogs against the Tampa Bay Rays (-173) in the series finale.

In the first two games of this series, the Bronx Bombers have played how everyone expected them to, at the beginning of the season.

New York has won the first two games of this series with great pitching and great situational hitting. In two games they have allowed just 6 runs, and have scored 15 themselves.

Last night, Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez placed his name in yet another category in the history books. A-Rod became the first to make use of the recently installed instant replay, in last night’s game in the top of the 9th inning.

The OVER/UNDER in this New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays MLB Prediction has been set at a total of 9 runs. Tonight, Darrell Rasner (5-9, 5.08) will try to hold off the Rays' Scott Kazmir (10-6, 3.13) as he hopes to get his team a much-needed W.
