MLB Odds National League May 7 2012: The Philadelphia Phillies host the New York Mets headlining a seven-card National League schedule when they play Monday’s ESPN televised game at Citizens Bank Park. Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay (3-2,3.40 ERA) gets the start for the Phillies in this one and will be going against Mets starter Joe Niese (2-1, 4.08 ERA). The Miami Marlins will trot right-hander Carlos Zambrano to the mound at Minute Maid Park when they play the first of a set against the Astros in Houston. The Astros, who’ve won five of their last six games will start Wandy Rodriguez. The Astros left-hander is 3-2 with a 1.64 ERA and is 3-0 in his last three starts. Zambrano (0-2, 2.53 ERA) has a string of four straight quality starts, and he has yet to log a win. The Marlins are listed as slight -106 MLB Odds favorites for the game with a combined betting total (over/under) of 7 1/2-runs.

The Cincinnati Reds send Bronson Arroyo to the mound tonight when they visit Milwaukee for the first of a three game series at Miller Park. Due to a pitching change by Milwaukee this game is currently off the betting board.

Price had his best outing of the season Tuesday, when he tossed a five-hit shutout against the Angels, walking one and striking out six to earn his second consecutive win. Price is 0-3 with a 5.67 ERA in six career starts against the Rangers.

Holland allowed seven runs in six innings in a 7-4 loss to the Yankees in his last start. Left-handed hitters are batting .318 off him while righties are hitting .184. Opponents are also hitting .391 off him with runners in scoring position.

The Detroit right-hander is off to a rocky start this season with only one win to his credit and a soaring ERA of 8.24 ERA. Sunday’s series rubber game gets started with first pitch at 1:05 ET.

Now that the 2012 season is beginning its fourth week of play it appears the same three clubs will be leading the pace with St. Louis the best of the three, currently leading the division with a 12-7 record. Beginning Friday, the Cardinals return home to Busch Stadium to host a three game set with the Brewers with the opener set for 8:15 p.m. The Cardinals and Brewers played three game at Miller Park in Milwaukee in early April with St. Louis winning 2-of-3. Cardinals manager Mike Matheney will give Friday’s start to veteran right-hander Jake Westbrook has been impressive this season with a 2-1 record and a 1.31 ERA. Countering for the Brewers is their ace right-hander Yovani Gallardo who is 1-1 on the year with a 3.65 ERA.

With Gallardo and Westbrook the listed starters, online sports book Bovada.lv lists the Cardinals as slight -130 MLB Odds favorites with a combined game total of 7 1/2-runs. The Yankees offense came to life on Saturday after down being down 9-0 after 5 frames to score 15 combined runs in the next three innings to win 15-9. The Rangers won two of three against a very good Detroit Tigers team in Detroit.

Today’s prediction: The Yankees catch a break by having Sabathia available but will that be enough? The Rangers have the best combined pitching and offense in the majors. I like the Rangers in this one and to win the series.

The series begins Friday and plays through three games ending Sunday (April 22) at Boston’s famed Fenway Park. Series betting odds for the show the Yankees and Red Sox priced at -115 MLB Odds. Last year the Red Sox won the season series between the clubs 12-6, the first time the series didn’t end in an even split since 2007. The Yankees are slight favorites -116 for Friday’s opener at Boston with a combined score total of 10 1/2. As home underdogs, Red Sox backers are getting +106 money line odds to win SU.

The Red Sox will start right-hander Clay Bucholz in this one while the Yankees counter with Ivan Nova, also a right-hander. The Red Sox are currently last in the five-team Eastern Division with a 4-8 record and have lost three straight and six of their first 10 games. The Red Sox were recently swept in a short two game set at home to reigning AL Champs, the Texas Rangers.
