At 16-0 and ranked on top of all major polls, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons basketball team takes to its home court at Joel Coliseum Wednesday night as the nations top team for the first time in the programs storied history. The Hokies enter tonight’s game with a 12-5 overall record and are 2-1 in ACC action. The ESPN2 televised game will tip-off at 7 pm ET.
Sports odds professionals at online sports gambling giant BetUS.com list the Demon Deacons as heavy 13-chalk and -1200 moneyline favorite with a 144 total. Hokies backers are getting +750 moneyline odds.
Wake Forest leads the series with Virginia Tech, 26-24, but the Hokies won the last meeting between the two schools, 80-58, at Virginia Tech March 4, 2008. The Demon Deacons have had little problem with the Hokies at home going 14-5. Tech leads the ACC regular season series, 3-2 and also defeated the Deacs in the only ACC Tournament meeting.
Wake Forest is coming off a 78-68 win at No.9 ranked Clemson last Saturday. In a battle of unbeatens, the Deacons came out on top by pulling away in the second half. Wake held Clemson to a season-low shooting percentage of 33.8 from the floor and 21.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Virginia Tech comes to town having won three straight and seven of their past eight games since mid-December. The Hokies are coming off a 79-71 defeat of Boston College last Saturday at home.
