New York Knicks vs Miami Heat 2012 NBA Picks

by Matt Foust on Friday, January 27th, 2012

heat james drivingThe reeling Knicks will look to halt their extensive slide later this evening when they battle the Southeast leading Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. Tonight’s Eastern Conference showdown between New York and Miami is scheduled for an 8:00pm ET tip off on ESPN. The latest NBA Odds have the Heat listed as a -11 against the spread home favorite; the game total is set at 195.5 points.

New York looked as though it might be ready to challenge in the Atlantic Division after winning its fourth straight game way back on January 11th. The victory improved the Knicks to 6-4 on the season and put them in position to take a run at the 76ers. How long ago that seems now.

Since knocking off Philadelphia 85-79 on that Wednesday night, New York proceeded to lose six consecutive games. The Knicks did snap that streak on Tuesday with a 111-79 thrashing of the lowly Bobcats in Charlotte, but they immediately fell off the wagon on Wednesday with a 91-81 loss to the Cavaliers to fall to 7-11 overall.

Now New York is saddled with the task of topping a Heat squad that has won five of its last six games and leads the Southeast Division with a 13-5 record, and it must do so without its leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony (ankle/wrist).

Miami has pieced together its recent run without the services of Dwyane Wade, who missed his sixth consecutive game on Wednesday night. Wade is presently listed as day-to-day and it is uncertain whether or not he will see action in tonight’s game. The bigger question, though, given how Miami has played of late, is: does it even matter?

Chris Bosh and LeBron James have picked up the slack with Wade out of the lineup, averaging 26.7 and 28.3 points respectively in his absence. Tonight should feature more domination by the Big Two against a Knicks team that is averaging just 93.7 points per game on the road.

NBA Picks Betting Trend: Miami is 9-1 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games as a home favorite with a total between 195 and 200 (Over 8-2 in those games).
