Both teams are looking to bounce back after tough loses over the weekend. This has to be a very disappointing season for both teams after starting the preseason ranked: (19) Connecticut was ranked 12th and Louisville was ranked No.19. The Huskies and the Cardinals have struggled the most when facing Top 25 teams, as they’ve yet to win a single ballgame and combining for a record of 0-8.
UConn is coming off a 70-68 loss to Marquette on Sunday. The Huskies, who continue to be without coach Jim Calhoun, rallied from a double-digit decifit only to come up short up a bucket. “It’s been the story the whole season, where everybody doesn’t come out to play at the start of the game,” said Jerome Dyson. “We always get ourselves in a hole and then we have to play the rest of the game trying to get out of it.”
For Rick Pitino and Louisville, they suffered a heartbreaking loss to 9th ranked West Virginia on Saturday, 77-74. The game was decided on some questionable calls, which the Cards obviously felt should have gone their way. “I’m tired of the officiating,” Rick Pitino said. “That’s why I’m not speaking. I’m tired of the officiating.
“You don’t shoot (52) percent and play as hard as that and expect those situations, so I’ve had it with the officiating. So I’m not going to say anymore. I’ve had it.”
