Connecticut at Syracuse 2012 College Basketball Picks: With only a few weeks until men’s March-Madness; the week’s Saturday madness begins at the Carrier Dome between the Connecticut Huskies and No. 2 ranked Syracuse Orange in Syracuse, N.Y. Connecticut has hit the skids mightily, losers of five of their past six games and has lost head coach Jim Calhoun from the sidelines as he is out with a back problem. Syracuse survived a scare last time out in their 64-61 home win on Wednesday night to the Georgetown Hoyas. CBS will televise the game beginning with a 1 pm ET tip-off.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodava.lv list the Orange as 11-chalk favorites with a combined score total of 131 1/2 (over/under) total. Huskies backers are getting +500 College Basketball Odds to win SU while Cuse backers are laying -700 moneyline for a SU win.
Syracuse is cruising with only one loss on the year, that coming on the road at Notre Dame back on Jan. 21. Since that day, the Orange has won four straight, last defeating Georgetown in the Dome 64-61.
The Huskies have fallen out of the BIG EAST race losing five out of their last six games, most recently losing by 21 (59-80) at Louisville to the Cardinals. Their only win the past two weeks came last Saturday with a 23 point home victory over Seton Hall.
Sometimes a wounded dog can be the most dangerous and that could be the case with the Huskies in today’s game. They are big up front, potentially causing problems on the boards. They play good defense, keeping the opposition’s field goal percentage low. Syracuse will need to be patient as they look for the clear shot. Keep an eye out for Jeremy Lamb, UConn’s best player averaging 17.2 points per game. If Syracuse can contain him, they win easily.
My Saturday Pick – Syracuse -11.
Friday’s winning pick – Harvard nips Penn by a half-dozen (Harvard -5 1/2) : Reno makes a great prediction as the Crimson win by exactly six points.
