Saturday's busy schedule in the NCAA holds a massive contest between in-state rivals, but local supremacy is secondary on the agenda when Memphis and Tennessee clash for the No.1 ranking in the country. BetOnline.com has the Memphis Tigers as –6 point favorites over the Tennessee Volunteers with a over/under set at 158 points.
The Volunteers extended their lead atop the SEC to 2 ½ games with a 89-70 thumping on Auburn at home on Wednesday. Tennessee was all over Auburn from the very beginning, jumping out to a 26-point halftime lead to cruise to the victory.
Tyler Smith put up a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards for the Volunteers, who shot 51.5% from the floor while holding Auburn to 31.7%. Memphis also benefited by a fast start, as the Tigers held a 19-point halftime edge in a 97-71 thrashing of Tulane on the road on Wednesday.
Chris Douglas-Roberts struck for 29 points for the Tigers, who shot 54.9% from the field and forced 15 Tulane turnovers. The Tigers have fallen in three of their last five games against the Volunteers, but this Memphis team looks determined to become the first school since UNLV in 1991 to enter the tournament with a perfect record. In what will be a close game, Memphis should emerge victorious due to their team speed and home court advantage. Get your Free NCAA Basketball Pick in Now!
