Long Beach State vs New Mexico 2012 NCAA Bracket Predictions: 2012 Mountain West Conference Champion’s New Mexico Lobo’s drew a No. 5 seed in the West Region of the 2012 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament and will play No. 12 seed Long Beach State in the second round at Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon on Thursday, March 15. . Tip-off for the game will be around 4:10 p.m. ET and will be televised by TBS. LBSU (25-8, 15-1 Big West) secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the champion of the Big West Tournament.
Odds makers at online sports book SBGglobal.com list the Lobos as 4-chalk favorites with a combined score total of 137. 49′ers backers are getting +150 College Basketball Odds for a SU win while the price of a money line wager on New Mexico is -175.
The 49ers, who played the nation’s toughest non-conference schedule, faced eight teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament field – No. 1 seed North Carolina, No. 2 seed Kansas, No. 4 seed Louisville, No. 6 seed San Diego State, No. 8 seeds Kansas State and Creighton, No. 10 seed Xavier, and No. 13 Montana.
The 49′ers have a nice outside game led by 5’10″ Casper Ware. Meanwhile the Lobo’s have a stronger inside game on the strength of 6’9″ Drew Gordon who is getting noticed by NBA scouts. I give the edge in a SU game to the Lobo’s, but only a slight one because of Gordon complimented by perimeter muscle; probably more than Long Beach can handle. For the 49′ers to win they will have to overachieve a bit. I look for New Mexico to win a tight game but the 49′ers cover as a +4 underdog.
