It’s only fair that we give the people what they want, by starting off with the Region everyone’s talking about, the 2009 NCAA Bracket: Midwest Region. The No. 1 ranked (25-8, 16-2) Louisville Cardinals will be one of the more difficult matchups in the tournament, because of their defense. They not only led the league in scoring defense, blocks and steals, but they also possess one of the best frontcourts in the nation. The only concern for Louisville is their backcourt, which happens to be their weakest link. Here’s Louisville’s projected starting five: (Jr.) F Earl Clark, (Fr.) C Samardo Samuels, (Sr.) F Terrence Williams, (Jr.) G Jerry Smith, and (Jr.) G Edgar Sosa.

In the 2009 NCAA Bracket: South Region, Roy Williams’ (49-18 in NCAA tournament record) (28-4, 13-3) North Carolina Tar Heels lead the way. Their projected starting lineup is certainly experienced and considered one for the ages: (Sr.) F Danny Green, (Sr.) F Tyler Hansbrough, (Jr.) F Deon Thompson, (Jr.) G Wayne Ellington, and last but not least, (Jr.) G Ty Lawson. For the Heels, Hansbrough, Lawson, Green and Ellington bypass last year’s NBA Draft for this moment in time. They didn’t return to win an ACC title. They came back for a national championship. This team has the best personnel in place to once again best team in the nation, and anything less than being the last team standing will not satisfy the Tar Heels.

In the 2009 NCAA Bracket: East Region, another Big East giant leads the way. The (28-4, 15-3) Pittsburgh Panthers. The Panthers are considered among the favorites to win it all. The combined experience of Blair, Fields and Young makes them a vry formidable opponent in this year’s tourney. With Blair in the low post and Young in the frontcourt, the Panthers are big, physical, and will be a tough matchup for any team. Pittsburgh Panthers probable starters are: (Sr.) F Tyrell Biggs, (Soph.) F DeJuan Blair, (Sr.) F Sam Young, (Jr.) G Jermaine Dixon, and (Sr.) G Levance Fields.

Rounding out this 2009 NCAA Bracket Preview, we have the 2009 NCAA Bracket: West Region. Leading the way in the West Region, we have the (27-4, 15-3) Connecticut Huskies, coached by Jim Calhoun (39-17 NCAA tournament record). The key for UCONN will be their size in the frontcourt, as very few teams in the nation can matchup with their bigs. The injury to Dyson has become a major concern for their backcourt, as they were exposed this season because of their lack of depth. With Final Four experience and their size, the Huskies can get very far this year. Their projected starting five include: (Sr.) F Jeff Adrien, (Jr.) F Stanley Robinson, (Jr.) C Hasheem Thabeet, (Sr.) G Craig Austrie, and (Sr.) G A.J. Price.
