2009 NCAA Bracket: West Region Betting Odds

by Steve Hastings on Monday, March 16th, 2009

Sports-Ods.com is breaking down the betting odds for the West Region 2009 NCAA Bracket.  While many experts believe that Memphis should have received a top seed, online sportsbook BetUS.com has made the Connecticut Huskies the +200 odds favorites to win the West Region and move on to the 2009 Final Four.

"This is a strong bracket and its hard to imagine a scenario where the Huskies make it through to the Final Four out of the West Region 2009 NCAA Bracket," stated Sports-Odds.com Publisher Thomas Jensen. "Memphis is going to be out to prove the critics wrong and they should win this bracket, others to keep your eye on include Big 12 Conference Tournament Champions Missouri and potentially Big Ten Tournament Champion Purdue."

“Part of it is the B.C.S./non-B.C.S. business,” stated Memphis Tigers head coach John Calipari when asked about his team being shut out of a No. 1 seed in the West Region 2009 NCAA Bracket. “If you think they’re going to root for us, you’re crazy. Only four teams from universities not in the B.C.S. conferences received at-large bids. That’s the lowest number since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. I don’t think it’s right, but the good thing it’s going to do is create dialogue of ‘How could you do this?’ And they are going to have to explain, so that’s not all bad. And it will mobilize our city and our team.”

"It's a long ways from home, there's no question about that,” stated Missouri Tigers head coach Mike Anderson.  “But at the same time, there's not a whole lot to do besides play basketball, and I like that part of it."

"I was just happy when I saw our name up there," stated Missouri Tigers senior Matt Lawrence.  "I think I jumped out of my seat.  Even though knowing that we were going to be there, just to see our name up there was definitely gratifying.  We still have a long way to go, and I think we have  a team that's built for a tournament like you saw in the Big 12 Tournament."
