VCU vs Indiana 2012 NCAA Tournament Picks

VCU vs. IndianaVCU vs. Indiana 2012 NCAA Tournament Picks : The 12th seeded Virginia Commonwealth Rams edged out 5th-seed Wichita State (62-59) in the South Regional second-round of the 2012 Men’s NCAA Tournament to advance to the Round of 32 to play No. 4 seed Indiana Saturday with tip-off time slated for 7:10 p.m. ET at Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon. The Hoosiers advanced to the third round by defeating 13th seed New Mexico State 79-66 in the second-round. Odds makers at online sports book list Indiana as 6-chalk favorite versus the Rams with a combined score total of 138 1/2 (over/under). Rams’ backers are getting +230 odds on the College Basketball Odds money line to win SU while the price of a SU Indiana wager is -290 ($290 bet to win $100).

With the win over Wichita State, VCU now holds an 11-10 all-time record in the NCAA tournament. Seven of those 11 wins have come since 2007. The victory also gave the Rams a school-record for wins with 29, passing the 2010-11 and 2006-07 squads. The 29 wins is the most by any 11-seed or lower in NCAA Tournament history. It will be the second straight year that the Rams battled a Big Ten opponent in the NCAA Tournament Third Round with VCU taking down Purdue last year, 94-76. Senior Bradford Burgess tallied 16 points in Thursday’s win over Wichita State. He has reached double-figures in scoring in six of his eight career NCAA Tournament games.

The Hoosiers are shooting 76.3 percent from the free throw line, which would set a new school record for a single- season breaking the mark of 76.0 percent set in 2002-03. Indiana’s 218 3-point field goals made are the fifth most in school history in a single season. The record is 276 set in 2005-06.  The Hoosiers finished with the top non-conference RPI after posting wins over Butler, NC State, Kentucky, Notre Dame and regular season conference champions Savannah State and Stony Brook. The Hoosiers set a school record with a 14-0 non-conference mark. The Hoosiers defeated No. 1 Kentucky and No. 2 Ohio State this year as well as No. 5 Michigan State in conference play.

VCU is very good and should give Indiana a good battle but end the end, the Hoosiers will win SU.  I look for the Rams to cover +6.
