March Madness Pick: Arizona at West Virginia

by Steve Hastings on Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

BetOnline.com has the West Virginia Mountaineers –2 point favorites as a March Madness Pick over the Arizona Wildcats with the over/under set at 137 points. The Wildcats alternated wins and losses late in the season, coming in seventh in the Pac-10 standings before falling to Stanford in the conference quarterfinals.

It has been a weird season for the Wildcats in the first place, starting with coach Lute Olsen's personal leave from the team, followed by injuries to key players, namely freshman star Jerryd Bayless. But they showed plenty of poise to earn a ticket to the show, and if they get hot offensively, Arizona can score with anyone in the nation.

March Madness Pick: Arizona at West VirginiaThe Mountaineers were sixth in a Big East that had eight 20-win teams, and they were beaten by Georgetown in the conference semifinals. Joe Alexander has blossomed into a solid scorer, but the Mountaineers' strength comes in coaching, where Bob Huggins roams the sidelines. Huggins has been to a Final Four before, with Cincinnati in 1992, and he knows what it takes to get there, which is a boost for his young team.

The Mountaineers are 2-point favorites in this contest, and they should barely cover the spread against the Wildcats in what should be a free-wheeling tilt. Get your Free March Madness Pick in Now!
