The South Region will tip off their section of the “Sweet 16” on Friday in Houston and Stanford gets things started when they try to slow down Texas.  BetOnline.com has the Texas Longhorns –2 point favorites against the Stanford Cardinals with the total set at 134.5 points.

The Cardinal made short work of Cornell before surviving a tough overtime game with Marquette, which was never certain until Brook Lopez's basket with 1.3 seconds left in the extra sessions. Lopez came through for his team after head coach Trent Johnson was ejected for his second technical foul in the first half. The Cardinal showed a lot of mental strength by staying composed when their coach could not, and Lopez was the main reason for this.

The Longhorns crushed Austin Peay by 20 points in the first round before holding off a pesky Miami (FL) team for a three-point victory to reach the “Sweet 16”. The Longhorns nailed 13 three-points against the Hurricanes, six of which came from A.J. Abrams. While D.J. Augustin gets a lot of well-deserved publicity, Abrams is essential to the Texas cause as he keeps teams from doubling on Augustin. These two met once in 2001, with the Longhorns winning by eight points at home.
