For the first time in NCAA Basketball Tournament history, all four No.1 seeds made it through to the Final Four with the North Carolina Tar Heels and Kansas Jayhawks going toe-to-toe in the second semifinal. The Jayhawks were cruising until they ran into a Cinderella team in Davidson, but Kansas showed a lot of mental toughness by holding off the Wildcats to reach the Final Four. While Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers are the team's best players, the contributions of bench player Sasha Kaun was crucial as he had 13 vital points in 20 minutes of action.
 Kaun may be counted on again in this game, as the Jayhawks try to figure out a way to stop the Tar Heels' All-American forward Tyler Hansbrough, who was massive in the Elite Eight win over Louisville with 28 points and 13 rebounds. If players like Danny Green and Wayne Ellington can hit outside shots, that will free up the inside for Hansbrough. Much of the pre-game talk will be about North Carolina coach Roy Williams, who coached at Kansas for 15 years before heading to Chapel Hill in 2003, where he won a national title in 2005. Williams played and coached for Carolina, but his Kansas exit left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Jayhawk fans.
