Oklahoma Blake Griffin Eligible for NBA Draft: This afternoon, Oklahoma Sooners’ sophomore forward, Blake Griffin called a national press conference to announce his decision to leave the school to become eligible in the upcoming NBA Draft.
Griffin announced his decision Tuesday on campus alongside Sooners head coach Jeff Capel, saying it was time for him to “take his game to the next level”. Griffin also stated that he will look back on his days at Oklahoma as a very special time in his life.
The news of Griffin’s decision to make the jump comes less than 24 hours after the team that eliminated OU from this year’s tourney, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Michigan State Spartans to win the 2009 NCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship.
The Associated Press’ 2009 player of the year should be selected as the first overall pick in this year’s Draft on June 25. Underclassmen have until April 26 to declare for the draft and until June 15 to withdraw. Griffin led the Sooners to a 30-6 regular season record, while averaging 22.7 points per game and a nation-leading 14.4 rebounds per contest.
