The streaking Suns, still looking to secure a post-season berth, close out a four game road stand this evening with a battle against Western Conference rival San Antonio. Tonight’s game between the Suns and Spurs is scheduled for a 9:00pm ET tip at the AT&T Center; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. NBA Odds have the Spurs listed as a -9.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 208 points.
The Suns, looking desperate to lock up one of the final Western Conference playoff spots, won for the sixth time in their last eight games last night, upsetting the Rockets 112-105 in Houston. The win improved Phoenix record to 31-28 and left it just a game back of the Rockets and Nuggets, the current seventh and eighth seeds, in the conference standings.
The Suns downed 49.4 percent of their field goal attempts and connected on 8-of-18 from long range in earning the key road victory. Steve Nash, who is averaging a 12.9 point, 11.1 assist double-double for the season, scored 18 points and dished out 10 assists in leading Phoenix to the win. Center Marcin Gortat also posted a double-double, recording a team high 20 points to go along with 15 boards.
San Antonio, the two seed in the West, snapped a two game skid and drew to within a game of conference leader Oklahoma City on Wednesday night with a 107-97 win over the Grizzlies at the AT&T Center. Tim Duncan led the way for the Spurs with a 28 point, 12 rebound, two block effort. Manu Ginobili also contributed to the victory with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 30 minutes off the bench.
Tonight’s game marks the third meeting of the season between these two familiar foes. San Antonio won the first two games 102-91 and 107-100 respectively. In fact, the Spurs have won five of the last six in this series and five in a row against the Suns at the AT&T Center (average margin of victory 10.8 points).
NBA Odds Betting Trend: The Spurs are 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as a home favorite with a spread between 8 and 10.5 points and total between 205 and 210.
