NBA Picks: Detroit Pistons vs Miami Heat

by Abe Luciano on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

NBA Picks Detroit Pistons (39-42) vs. Miami Heat (42-39): The American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida will be the sight for this, the final game of the regular season for both, the (8) Detroit Pistons and the (5) Miami Heat.

In the Eastern Conference there are still a few things to be decided as far as 2009 Playoff seeding goes. For the (7) Philadelphia 76ers, a Heat victory along with a (6) Chicago Bulls loss would guarantee they will not be starting the 2009 postseason against the defending NBA champion, (2) Boston Celtics.

What do the odds dictate? According to odds-makers at BodogLife.com, the Miami Heat [-2] will win tonight’s game by a bucket over the visiting underdog, Detroit Pistons [+2]. Opening tipoff for this contest has been scheduled for 8:05 PM ET (5:05 PM PT) and it can be seen locally on Sun-Sports, FS-Detroit, and/or NBA League Pass.

Despite making it to an eighth straight postseason appearance, the Pistons will post their first losing record since going 32-50 in the 2000-01 season. "I'm disappointed that we didn't do a better job tonight,” coach Michael Curry said after losing to the Bulls. "We didn't stay disciplined down the stretch." The OVER/UNDER for tonight’s NBA Picks: Detroit Pistons vs. Miami Heat has been calculated to end up at 181 total points scored.

"Tonight just sums up the way we have been playing the whole season,'' Antonio McDyess said that night. "We're up in the fourth and we just let the game go. Playing Cleveland, Boston or Orlando – it doesn't matter at this point. If we can't do this during the regular season, it is definitely going to be hard to do it in the postseason.”

For Miami, preparation for the 2009 Playoffs has already gotten underway. The Heat were without 2009 NBA scoring title-winner, Dwyane Wade (30.2 ppg), Jermaine O'Neal and Udonis Haslem for Tuesday's night’s game at Atlanta, as they have their sights set on the postseason. "Any rest helps the body,'' Wade said. "We won't play (the Hawks) until possibly Saturday. That's a nice amount of days."
