For the Mavericks, the success they enjoyed in game 1 now seems like very long ago. In fact, Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle appears to be struggling with his rotations, something you don’t want to be doing at this point in the postseason. Caron Butler was benched for the entire second half of Friday’s game, while Shawn Marion didn’t play much either.
“Decisions that a coach has to make can be difficult for players,” Carlisle said. “But all year long we've talked about sacrifice and that fact that we have a deep roster, and that this wasn't going to be about keeping guys happy. It was going to be about winning.”
For the Spurs, coach Popovich also has done some shuffling in his lineups, as Tony Parker has lost his starting job. So what’s it like for a guy that is used to being a starter to all of the sudden come off the bench?
“It's a little bit different,” Parker said. “You have to play quicker. You can't wait two or three minutes to start the game. You have to come in and be aggressive.
“I learned watching Manu. Manu did it for so many years, so I'm just trying to get into that mentality. Try to bring a boost and try to bring some energy to the team.”
