San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans Hornets NBA Playoffs Prediction

by Abe Luciano on Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Have the San Antonio Spurs finally figured out this New Orleans Hornets team, and how to shut them down? It certainly appears that way in my NBA Playoff Prediction, but so far, only in the “Lone Star State”. As a mater of fact, whenever the SAS have been away from home in this series, they have looked old and slow, tired and done. NBA betting odds at SBGglobal.com have the New Orleans Hornets a -3 point NBA betting favorite. when they host the San Antonio Spurs and the O/U set at a combined 186 ½ total points.

In their current championship run, the San Antonio Spurs have been known for playing aggressive in-your-face-defense for 48 minutes, along with a pinpoint-executing offensive attack. But Chris Paul and the Hornets have made the Spurs look very beatable, as they have blown them out in Louisiana on 2 different occasions making the Hornets  to gauge when making NBA playoff predictions.

Tonight’s contest is the most important game in this series, but for one of these teams, more than the other. NBA playoff prediction experts should make no mistake about it, this game holds more weight for the NO Hornets, then it does for the SA Spurs. The TOTAL is set at  combined 186 ½ for NBA betting in the San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans.

If New Orleans looses tonight, this series is over. However, San Antonio can afford to loose tonight, as they’ll have one more game to play (at home) to tie the series at 3-3. And if there is a game 7, the defending champions are more than qualified to pull out an upset on the Hornet’s home floor.

So tonight’s game is due or die for the Hornets, they must protect home court if they want to stay alive in these playoffs. If NO wins tonight, there will be a game 7 showdown back in the Big Easy.

My NBA Playoffs Prediction: The San Antonio Spurs are a veteran team, and thus, Greg Popavich and his coaching staff have seen everything, there’s to see (on a basketball court). He will have them ready to play tonight. Don’t expect the Spurs to come out flat-footed as they did in games 1 and 2, when they were trashed.

At this point (with 4 games in the books), there aren’t any more secrets left. Each team knows exactly, what to expect from the other. Everything now comes down to offensive/defensive execution. I’ll take the underdog + 3 San Antonio Spurs, because they can pull off this victory, as their defense will keep it a close contest in the 4th quarter, and even if they were to loose, it'll be by 3 points or less. In a seven game series, the more experienced team usually comes out victorious.
