For the first time in these playoffs, the No. 1 seeded Boston Celtics, played like so, and in-turn, showed that they truly belong among the NBA’s elite teams. A team that is unable to win on the road in the playoffs, simply doesn’t stand a chance at a NBA championship, and they finally understood that. By accomplishing something they hadn’t gotten close to doing, they have taken a 2-1 lead in this best-of-seven-series with the Detroit Pistons, and have also gained home court back in this series. BodogLife.com has the Detroit Pistons a -6 point favorite to square this series at 2-2 with the Boston Celtics (+6) and the O/U set at a combined 175 total points. After giving up home court advantage with a devastating loss in game 2, the Celtics have finally showed signed of toughness. For the duration of the entire 2008 playoffs, Boston seemed to have been going through the motions, as every series (leading to this one) had been extended the distance, because they couldn’t compete on the road. Up to this point, they had just gotten by teams, and only winning in a decisive game 7. Well, they certainly have chosen the best time for their first playoffs road victory. It is also more impressive, because they were able to do it against a seasoned Detroit Pistons team. The Detroit Pistons have seen everything there’s witness on a basketball court. They are such a close bunch, because they have been together for a long time, and together have battled through many wars. They are the type of team, you can never count out. However, the Pistons seem to go only as far as their leader PG Chauncey Billups can take them. Almost like a lead off man atop an MLB lineup, “Mr. Big Shot” sets the table, and the rest of the players just feed off of him. The question is, how much can Chauncey contribute obviously not being 100%? How long should Flip Saunders go with his superstar, before he starts hurting the team? That remains to be seen. For now, Detroit needs “Rip” Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, and Prince to step up big, and even this series out before heading back to Bean Town. My NBA Prediction: DET –6 I find it very difficult to expect a veteran team like Detroit to come out and have a repeat performance of game 3. I also expect them to come out energized, get their crowd involved, and to win by an ample margin.
