San Antonio Spurs Manu Ginobili Will Undergo Injury: Argentina’s top basketball player, the San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, has stated that he'll need arthroscopic surgery to repair a ligament injury in his heel. “They’re going to operate on me,” said the 2004 gold medallist on Friday to an Argentinean based newspaper. What are the betting odds that the San Antonio Spurs will win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship? SportsBook.com has your answer.

Ginobili, who most recently won a bronze medal with Argentina in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, made the decision to undergo surgery after multiple MRI showed no improvements on a lingering injury. San Antonio Spurs Manu Ginobili Will Undergo Injury

The 31-year-old said: “It’s the same as it was two months ago, when they did the first exam. It’s not worse, which is important. Now, the thing is, it’s not better either, and it seems like the only way to repair it completely is arthroscopic surgery.”

The San Antonio Spurs betting odds of winning the 2008-2009 NBA Championship are currently third best (+800) behind the LA Lakers (+250), and the Boston Celtics (+300).

The Argentine, who first hurt his ankle during the 2008 NBA Playoffs, was urged by Gregg Popovich not to compete in the Beijing Olympics unless the ankle got better. To that, Ginobili added: “My plan was to be a part of the Olympic games, and I knew that if I suffered from pain they would have to operate. This isn’t something that took me by surprise.” Manu Ginobili will need approximately 2 months, after the surgery, to recuperate.
