New York Knicks Acquire Patrick Ewing Jr from Houston Rockets: Like father, like son. This week, the AP announced that the New York Knickerbockers have acquired the son of the legendary NBA center Patrick Ewing, from the Houston Rockets. Patrick Ewing Jr. will literally now follow in his father’ footsteps when he walks into the majestic Madison Square Garden as a Knick. What are the betting odds that the New York Knicks will win the 2008-2009 NBA Eastern Conference title under new head Mike D'Antoni? SportsBook.com has the answer to that. On Friday, the New York Knicks acquired Patrick Ewing Jr. in return for the draft rights of C Frederic Weis. Ewing Jr, who was selected 43rd overall by the Sacramento Kings in this year’s NBA Draft, was traded to the Houston Rockets along with F Ron Artest. However, he is now a Knick. “Coming to the Knicks, and hopefully being able to contribute, means a lot to me… it has always been my dream to play for this team,” said the ecstatic youngster. “My goal is to show the coaches that I can play and do all that I can to help the team win some games.” The betting odds that the New York Knicks (+3,000) will win the 2008-2009 Eastern Conference crown aren’t very good, as they are 5th worse. Patrick Ewing Sr. spent 15 of his 17 NBA season with the Knicks, as he became the franchise player and the face of the organization for over a decade. Allegedly, Pat resents the Knicks these days for not offering him a position to continue with the organization after his playing days were over. Currently, Pat is employed by the Orlando Magic and has been the biggest reason for Dwight Howard’s development and much-improved play. “I am very happy my son will follow my footsteps… hopefully he will have a long and productive career in New York. I am proud of him and I wish him nothing but success,” said the proud father. The team with the best betting odds of winning the 2008-2009 Eastern Conference title its the reining champs, the Boston Celtics (+130).
