Game 3 of this Eastern Conference series continues tonight from central Florida, as the Detroit Pistons travel to the “Sunshine State” to take on the Orlando Magic. For the duration of two games, the Pistons defense has suffocated and contained the Slam Dunk Champion C Dwight Howard. In order for the Magic to make this a series heading back home, they must regroup. The fine folks at BodogLife.com have the Orlando Magic favorite by –4 points at home when they host the Detroit Pistons, and the O/U has been set at a total of 187 points. The Magic did a much better job in game 2 of getting their offense in some sort of a flow against this excellent Detroit defense. One of the issues in that game was a controversial call at the end of the 3rd quarter, when time just seems to have stopped enabling PG Chauncey Billups to put Detroit ahead with a 3-pointer. But that was the end of the 3rd quarter, not the final buzzer.
One would agree that the officials blew that call: attempting to estimate how much time remained in the quarter. But, you have to blame the NBA rules for that one; the officials were just following what the rule says. The Magic need to stop focusing on the officiating, and start focusing on coaching strategy, and how to get Dwight Howard more efficient touches, if they want to go back to Detroit, Michigan this season. |

Tuesday afternoon was a very special and emotional time for Kobe Bryant and his family, his teammates, and the entire Lakers organization. When finally announced (Tuesday), the Los Angeles Lakers superstar would be named the league's MVP everyone showed up at the Los Angeles Hotel to show their support, and pay their respect, to the player who has been the best in the world, for quite some time now. Consequently, None of this favors the Jazz’s chances of stealing home court from LA. Wednesday evening the Utah Jazz will have to deal with an emotion, fired up Staples Center crowd as NBA Commissioner David Stern will be in attendance, to formally crown the 2008 Most Valuable Player: Kobe B. Bryant. The city of Los Angeles is absolutely crazy about this guy, and tonight they'll all have their chances to holler it and scream it, as KB24 will be immortalized in front of the eyes of 20,000+ loving fans. Expect the MVP KB to come out inspired and motivated to get this W. I can almost assure that, the Utah Jazz have absolutely no chance of winning game 2 Wednesday night in Tensile Town. Furthermore, if you like LA tonight, the fine folks at SBGglobal.com have the best line for you. The Los Angeles Lakers are a - 6 ½ (-105 reduced juice) points favorites in game 2 at home versus the Utah Jazz, and the O/U has been set at 210 combined total points. With a motivated Kobe Bryant, who knows what can happen in a basketball game played in front of this LA crowd. Last time we’ve seen this guy get motivated (at home) what has he done? Bryant outscored the entire Dallas Mavericks team by himself dropping 60+ in only 3 quarters played. KB24 made history recording the second highest scoring performance in NBA history: 81 points against the Raptors. The MVP put together string of a week’s worth of consecutive 50 pt games. What will the newly crowned MVP do for an encore? I trully do not know. This is a different Kobe Bryant: who’s not about scoring records, or one-man showings, nor showboating… this is now the epitome of a team player. This, is now the worse thing that could have ever happened to the rest of the National Basketball Association… no prediction needed for this game. Enjoy the show… |

The Utah Jazz could not hit their open shots during their Game 1 loss in Los Angeles, and they will try to rectify that when they head to the Staples Center for Game 2 on Wednesday to meet the Lakers in an NBA playoff clash. Sportsbetting.com has the Los Angeles Lakers as -8 pt favorites as they host the Utah Jazz with the O/U set at 209.5 total.
Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Lakers – 10:30 PM ET The Jazz were solid on the offensive glass during their 109-98 loss in Game 1, and they needed to be as they hit only 37.9% of their attempts from the field. Mehmet Okur paced the attack with 21 points and 19 rebounds, with eight coming on the offensive end. The Jazz wasted their 58-41 advantage on the glass, and that is the most telling statistic of the first game. The Jazz, which shot 49.7% from the floor during the regular season, cannot afford to miss so many shots, and they also need to get back on defense because the Lakers killed them in the open court. Deron Williams just missed a triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Jazz.
Kobe Bryant poured in a game-high 38 points in Game 1, and the NBA's probable MVP (as of Tuesday) was an outstanding 21-for-23 from the foul line. As a team, the Lakers attempted 46 free throws to the Jazz's 30, as they were far more aggressive on the offensive end. Pau Gasol was next with 18 points and ten rebounds, but what he brings to the Lakers is much more than numbers. Gasol's passing ability now gives the Lakers five players on the floor who can pass the ball relatively well, which makes the triangle offense much more effective.
The Lakers are 7.5-point home favorites to protect their homecourt, and the Jazz have only two things to consider for Game 2. First, they need to keep Bryant off the foul line. If they can hold Bryant to perimeter jump shots, that will take away his ability to get to the line, as well as limiting his opportunities to create for his teammates. Second, they simply need to shoot the ball better, especially off of offensive rebounds. But Bryant should be in a celebratory MVP mood, which will signal a huge game for #24. Take the Lakers to head to Utah with a commanding 2-0 lead with a victory on Wednesday.

The NBA playoffs Western Conference semifinals game 2 between Utah Jazz vs LA Lakers tips off tonight at 10:30 PM ET with the Lakers up 1-0 in the series. In game 1 NBA MVP Kobe Bryant went crazy dropping 38 points on the Jazz en route to a 109-98 victory as -8 point chalk. SBGglobal.com has the LA Lakers as -7.5 point NBA betting favorites in the Utah Jazz vs LA Lakers game. The Jazz (58-31 SU) put up 22 more shots than the Lakers (62-25 SU) thanks to their superior rebounding but shot a terrible 37.9% from the field. Despite their first round hiccup the Jazz are a better team than the one that took the court in game 1 and their physical team can turn things around with some improved shooting. The Jazz (49-40 ATS) averaged 105.1 PPG this year and forward Carlos Boozer can be a force when he is on his game. Despite Boozer’s skills the Jazz do not have the firepower that the profitable Lakers (52-33-1 ATS) possess. The OVER\UNDER is 209.5 points for bettors looking for alternative NBA picks. Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan had this to say about the superman Kobe Bryant: "I don't think anybody has been able to guard Kobe," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "He's just a great player. He can shoot the ball long range, he can shoot the 3-pointers way out past the 3-point line, he can put the ball on the floor. You come running at him and he catches you by surprise. It's hard to go double-team him and keep him from doing everything he wants to do. He has the ability to maybe go for a quarter or so and just try and stay involved, then all of a sudden from a scoring standpoint he can put 20 points on you real quick." Game one was an impressive performance for the Lakers without question but they did have some added rest over the weary Jazz who played after a quick turnaround. Now that the playing field is level with both teams on 2 days rest let’s see if the result will be the same. A lot of this game depends on how the referee’s call this game with the physical Utah defense drawing a killer 46 foul shots. Utah dominated the boards however against the Lakers with a 59-41 advantage and I think that the absence of Lakers center Andrew Bynum will catch up to Los Angeles in Game 2.
