The family looks rather dysfunctional around the University of Kentucky basketball program these days. Reports of coach Billy Clyde Gillispie's drinking, womanizing and all around bad boy behavior will probably lead to his dismissal probably before this report is completed. Oh and lets not forget; the Kentucky basketball team was not the best either losing to Notre Dame in the NIT quarterfinals on Wednesday night. But who in Kentucky cares about the NIT? That's just the point…they don't. At Kentucky its the NCAA or nothing. If Billy Clyde was winning for Wildcat-Blue, the loyal's could care less how many women he chases or high-ball's he consumes. After all, we're talking about Kentucky.
Online sportsbook Bodog at Bodoglife.com listed Kentucky in pre-season 2008-09 college basketball futures betting odds as a solid favorite to return to glory under Gillispie's guidence.
A 'shot across the bow' of the Kentucky program came quickly this season when the Wildcats lost at home in Rupp Arena to Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to open the season. Kentucky followed that loss by losing the next game at North Carolina. While a loss to the Tar Heels is forgivable, losing twice to Louisville isn't.
The final nail in the Kentucky program came when the team lost six of its final eight games against SEC opposition. And the SEC was down this year only providing three teams to the NCAA Tournament.
