by Reno Gold on Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Baylor takes on Xavier Friday in the South Regional Sweet 16The Baylor Bears, seeded 6th in the South Regional of the 2012 Men’s NCAA Basketball tournament, will play 10th seeds Xavier Musketeers in the Sweet Sixteen round at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia Friday. The game will be televised on CBS with a 7:15 p.m. ET tip. Baylor and Xavier will meet for the second time, both on a neutral court. In the only other series meeting, Baylor won 69-64 in the fifth-place game of the 2009 Old Spice Classic.

Odds makers at online sports book TopBet.com list Baylor as 6-chalk ATS favorites with a combined score total of 142 (over/under). Xavier backers are getting +240 College Basketball Odds on the off shore money line while the price of a SU winning wager on Baylor is -280 ($280 wager to win $100).

Baylor (29-7) is in the Big Dance by virtue of an at-large bid after losing to Missouri in the BIG 12 Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament in Kansas City. Since play in the NCAA Tournament began, the Bears have won two straight; beating South Dakota State (68-60) in the second round and former BIG 12 rival Colorado (80-63) in the field of 32. Baylor backers cashed as 8-chalk favorites versus the Buffaloes but pushed as 8-point favorites against SD State. The OVER has cashed against the posted number in six of 10 games Baylor’s played and in five of the last six.

Xavier went 23-12 under head coach Chris Mack and is in the tournament by virtue of an at-large bid after losing in the Atlantic 10 tournament to Saint Bonaventure. The Musketeers defeated Notre Dame as 2-point underdogs advancing to the third round where they beat Lehigh 70-58. Xavier is 2-0 ATS in the NCAA tournament.

Game Prediction: Baylor will win SU but giving -6 to a good Xavier team is too much. My Pick- Xavier +6.
