The University of Southern California Trojans football team are College Football Odds favorites to win the 2012 PAC 12 championship according to a panel of odds makers at online sports book Bovada.lv. USC is also projected to win the PAC 12 Championship from a poll of media and coaches at the recent PAC 12 meetings in July. Betting the Trojans to win the league will be expensive too at 5/9 odds. What it boils down to is it will take a $900 wager to win $500.
What makes the 2012 Trojans so potent is their backfield. The unit was expected to be one of the best in all of college football with Matt Barkley back at quarterback for his senior year, and joined by tailback Curtis McNeil, a 1000-yard back in 2011. The backfield got even stronger with the recent addition of Penn State runner Silas Redd, also a 1000-yard rusher for the Nittany Lions.
While offense is expected to be the strength at USC, the projected No. 2 in the PAC 12 are the Oregon Ducks, whose main strength is expected to be its defense. The Ducks defense was often overlooked in recent years because of their explosive offense with Heisman finalist LaMichael James who has now moved on to the NFL. The Ducks should be able to mount a stiff challenge to USC as the unit has plenty of play-makers back; especially on the defensive side. Odds of the Ducks winning the PAC 12 are good at 9/4. Oregon is a heavy favorite to be playing in the PAC 12 Championship Game.
