College Football Betting Lines Week 1

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, September 1st, 2012

Michigan Alabama 2012It was another profitable night for the college football betting lines makers in Week 1 action as the No. 13 ranked Michigan State got by the No. 24 ranked Boise State in East Lansing 17-13. The Spartans won by relying on the brilliant performance of work horse running back Le’Veon Bell who had 44 carries for 210 yards and a touchdown. Michigan State opened as a -7 point home favorite but that line was as low as -6 points at kick off at certain sportsbooks. The loss will push BSU out of the Top 25 but we expect the Broncos to get back in it after a few wins since they stuck around until the end in this game against MSU.

Sports-Odds.com prognosticator Reno Gold laid the points on MSU but the veteran college football betting lines expert came up disappointed for the second night in as many days. Gold is 0-2 ATS thus far in 2012 Week 1, giving out South Carolina -7 against Vanderbilt on Thursday night earning him his first loss with the score ending 17-13 just like the Boise State vs Michigan State line and outcome.

It is still early in the NCAAF season and the legend will start getting in a groove and you want to be there when he does get hot. Reno destroyed the odds makers last season going 99-44 ATS for an unprecedented 69% average on his Free College Football Picks on the year.

Today there is a full slate of games on the board for the college football betting lines makers to keep their eye on giving bettors a distinct advantage. Several games have caught our eyes and are sure to be great battles including the Miami Hurricanes at Boston College in ACC action kicking off at 3:30 PM EST. Neither team is ranked in the Top 25 but the game will help set the stage The Hurricanes are -2.5 road favorites against the Eagles with the OVER/UNDER at 44 points. Miami is -133 odds SU while Boston College is +113 odds SU.

Later in the night on ESPN at 7:00 PM we will get to see the No. 14 ranked Clemson Tigers take on the unranked Auburn Tigers. Again the road team is favored in this match up, Clemson is laying 2.5 points against home dog Auburn with the OVER/UNDER at 55 points. Clemson is -130 odds SU and Auburn is +110 odds SU.

I doubt anyone but true Clemson and Auburn fans will continue to watch their season opening match up since the marquee game of the day comes on ABC at 8:00 PM EST when Michigan takes on the defending National Champion Alabama. The Wolverines are ranked 8th in the country and the Crimson Tide is ranked 2nd making this match up of the year of two Top 10 teams.

The game is being played at Cowboys Stadium in Irving, Texas. It’s the first time that Big Blue has opened up their season at a neutral field. The Wolverines have suspended starting running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and back up defensive back Frank Clark for the game against Alabama. Toussaint was the leading rusher for Michigan last season and was a compliment to the mobile quarterback Denard Robinson.

The college football betting lines on this match up opened up with Alabama as a -10 point favorite but it has steadily snuck up to -14 points. News of the suspended Wolverines players did not move the line that much, some sportsbooks are showing Michigan +13 points which is the exact opposite direction you would expect to see after the suspensions were announced. In any event, this game is going to live up to the hype and it gives Robinson a chance to show the Heisman voters he is the real deal.
