Michigan vs Notre Dame takes place this Saturday as the schools meet for the 40th time. This weekend’s non-conference clash between the two storied programs is scheduled to get underway at 7:30pm ET at Notre Dame Stadium; it will be broadcast live on NBC. Notre Dame could, seemingly, be in line for its best finish yet under current head coach Brian Kelly after its 20-3 win at Michigan State on Saturday. The victory improved the Irish to 3-0 on the season and should give them confidence as they head into an October stretch that features meetings with Miami, Stanford, BYU, and Oklahoma. What may prove more critical to Notre Dame’s morale, as well as its BCS chances, is a win over Michigan this weekend and the College Football Odds makers think that is going to happen.
Certainly the 18th ranked Wolverines do not look as fearsome as they as did prior to the season’s start, but they have knocked off the Irish the last three years and they are 2-1 in their last three trips to South Bend.
Michigan comes into this game with a 2-1 record and off its most impressive performance of the season, a 63-13 thrashing of an over-matched Massachusetts team. The Wolverines piled up 585 total yards and Denard Robinson threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 106 yards and one score in the win.
Brady Hoke’s troops have not fared as well against stiffer competition, though, getting smoked 41-14 in their opener by Alabama before squeaking out a 31-25 home win over Air Force.
Those results would indicate Notre Dame has an excellent opportunity to end its three game skid against the Wolverines. Outside of the 50 points the Irish hung on Navy in their season opener, they have not been prolific on offense, totaling 40 points in their meetings with Purdue and Michigan State. However, Notre Dame has been stout on defense, allowing just 30 total points and an average of 288.7 yards per game (18th in the FBS).
