Big Ten action heats up this week as No. 23 Wisconsin takes on No. 4 Ohio State at the Horseshoe in Columbus. Start time in Saturday’s showdown between the Badgers and Buckeyes is set for 8:00pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on ABC. The latest College Football Odds from Bovada.lv have Urban Meyer’s squad listed as a -7 pick against the spread home favorite (note: a total has not been released for this game).
Ohio State, despite playing without its star player for the better part of three games, has been nothing short of outstanding this season. The Buckeyes are 4-0 and their offense is averaging over 52 points and 528 yards per game thanks to the exploits of backup quarterback Kenny Guiton.
Guiton, who took over starting duties when Braxton Miller went down with a sprained knee in a week two meeting with San Diego State, has completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 664 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 186 yards and one score on 25 attempts.
Last weekend Guiton set a school record with six touchdown passes in the Buckeyes 76-0 destruction of a helpless Florida A&M squad. Ohio State finished the game with 34 first downs and 603 yards; the Rattlers, who converted one of their 11 third down attempts, managed 80 yards of offense.
The Buckeyes level of competition increases significantly this weekend in the form of the Badgers. Wisconsin took a loss two weekends ago, falling 30-32 in a controversial finish at Arizona State, but it dominated its other three opponents. The Badgers wiped out cream puffs Massachusetts and Tennessee Tech 45-0 and 48-0, respectively, and they destroyed a poor Purdue team 41-10 in last weekend’s conference opener.
Wisconsin, which ranks third in the nation in rushing behind Navy and Oregon with 349.8 rush yards per game average, has been a tough out for the Buckeyes in recent seasons. Ohio State holds a 4-1 advantage in the last five meetings between the two schools, but it won three of those games by an average of 4.7 points per game.
Power Ratings Projection: Ohio State by 7.3 points.
Notable Trends: The Badgers are 5-0-2 in their last seven games as a road dog in the month of September.
Game Notes: Head Coach Urban Meyer has not indicated which quarterback will start against the Badgers, but he has suggested Miller will play if healthy.
