The battle for the Pac-12 South title takes place this weekend as USC and UCLA square off at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. This weekend’s much anticipated clash between the Trojans and Bruins is scheduled to get underway at 3:05pm ET on FOX. The latest College Football Odds have USC listed as a -3 pick against the spread road favorite and the game total set at 65.5 points.
When the season kicked off most felt the Pac-12 South title was USC’s to lose, but, as it turns out, its UCLA’s to give away as the two rivals head into Saturday’s showdown at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins have been a major surprise this season, plowing their way to an 8-2 record under the direction of first year head coach Jim Mora Jr and their 5-2 conference record has them sitting first in the South standings.
UCLA surprised with a hot 3-0 start, but after losing to both Oregon State and California in a three week span, the team’s stellar beginning was largely dismissed. The Bruins regrouped, though, by winning four straight games over conference foes Utah, Arizona State, Arizona, and Washington State.
It could be argued UCLA’s success is a result of a relatively soft schedule, as it has avoided the likes of Oregon, USC, and Stanford thus far, but it will have an opportunity to dispel that notion with the Trojans and Cardinal on tap.
USC, while viewed as a major disappointment, is still considered the best team in the division, and it has played a more difficult schedule than UCLA. The Trojans have faced road games against Stanford, Washington, and Arizona and they also hosted top ranked Oregon. Lane Kiffin’s squad only took care of business in one of those games (Washington), though, which is why the team finds itself in a must win spot against the Bruins.
Despite any frustration USC may feel as a result of its failing to meet expectations, it can still earn a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game with a win on Saturday. The Trojans have to like their chances too given their recent success against UCLA. USC has won eight of the last nine games in this series and it is 4-1 in its last five games opposite the Bruins at the Rose Bowl.
College Football Odds Betting Trend: UCLA is 8-0 against the spread in its last eight games as a home underdog with a game total of 54.5 points or more.
