Alabama vs Georgia Pick 2012 SEC Championship Game Odds

by Matt Foust on Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Nick Saban Alabama TeamLast year’s BCS Champion, Alabama, will look to win its second SEC Championship in the last four years when it meets SEC East winner Georgia this Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The two longtime rivals are scheduled to kickoff at 4:00pm ET on CBS. 2012 SEC Championship Game Odds have the Crimson Tide listed as a -7 pick against the spread favorite; the game total is set at 50.5 points.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Georgia Bulldogs (+7): Georgia comes into Saturday’s showdown with Alabama having reeled off six straight wins since its 35-7 loss at South Carolina. Nonetheless, the 11-1 Bulldogs are still catching seven points, indicating their first SEC title since 2005 is a long shot. Some are questioning why Georgia is a touchdown underdog given how well the team has played of late. Bulldogs detractors will point toward their ‘soft’ November schedule, which featured just one winning team, FCS school Georgia Southern. Georgia also avoided LSU, Texas A&M, and Alabama during the regular season, which meant the only winning SEC teams it faced were Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida. Conversely, Alabama squared off against LSU and Texas A&M before closing out its regular season slate opposite Western Carolina and Auburn. So it would appear the Crimson Tide are the more tested and talented bunch; however, the Bulldogs, like the Tigers and Aggies, are certainly capable of challenging Nick Saban’s troops. It is easy to envision a scenario where things get out of hand and Alabama rolls, but a tightly contested affair also seems like a realistic possibility. Alabama’s track record may be the best indicator of which way to go in this one, though. The Tide beat every opponent they faced this season by more than seven points with the exception of LSU and A&M. If one is inclined to believe Alabama is going to win, taking it against the spread is probably the best decision. College Football Odds Betting Trend: Alabama is 10-0 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games as a favorite with a game total between 47.5 and 51 points.
