Clemson Boyd vs NCStateThe 2013 Palmetto Bowl, which is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm ET on Saturday (ESPN2), features two top 10 teams as Clemson comes in at No. 6 while South Carolina holds the 10 spot. Despite the Gamecocks sitting four places back of the Tigers in the latest BCS standings, they are favored to win this weekend’s game. The latest college football odds from SportsBettingOnline.ag have South Carolina listed as a -5 pick against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 58 points.

No. 6 Clemson Tigers vs No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks (-5, Over/Under 58): South Carolina brings a 9-2 record into this weekend’s contest and a perfect 6-0 mark at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks also ride a four game winning streak into tomorrow’s clash. South Carolina rebounded from an unexpected 21-23 loss at Tennessee on October 19th by knocking off fifth ranked Missouri 27-24 in double overtime in the Show Me State. Following their win over the Tigers, the Gamecocks defeated Mississippi State, Florida, and Coastal Carolina at home.

However, while South Carolina has yet to lose in front of its fans, there have been some close calls in Columbia. Vanderbilt lost 25-35 at South Carolina while Kentucky fell 28-35, and Florida also played the Gamecocks tight, losing 14-19.

Suffice it to say Clemson is better than any of those teams and it represents South Carolina’s most difficult home challenge of the season. The Tigers, who hold a 65-41-4 advantage in this series, are 4-0 away from home this year with wins over North Carolina State, Syracuse, Maryland, and Virginia. That lineup is hardly fear inducing, but Clemson did beat those four teams by an average of 27.3 points per game.

The Gamecocks have won and covered the spread in the last four meetings between these two schools, but Clemson did keep things fairly close last year before eventually losing 17-27. The Tigers somehow managed that despite a horrific game from quarterback Tajh Boyd, who completed just 11-of-24 passes for 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Notable Trends: Clemson is 5-4 straight up and 9-0 against the spread as a road dog with a spread between 4 and 7.5 points.
